4th HKICF PROGRAM

27 JUNE (THU) – PROGRAM #1

7:30PM | Sheung Wan Civic Centre Theatre

GUEST ARTIST

Fabrice Mazliah | Germany

MADE IN CHINA

Choreographed by Fabrice Mazliah
Performed by Tilman O’Donnell

Tilman O’Donnell is collaborating with an Eschenbach porcelain cup produced in Germany in the mid 20th century. The cup, as a container, can be said to mirror the container that is the human body. However, it has to be transported rather delicately – the fragility of its material having been used historically to signify social refinement and sophistication. This is a dance of reciprocal moulding and being moulded, pouring and being poured, during which, possibly, slowly, form appears and re-appears. (extract from http://workofact.net)

7:30PM | Sheung Wan Civic Centre Theatre

GUEST ARTIST

DIONYSIOS ALAMANOS & DANAE DIMITRIADI | Greece

ATMA

Choreographed & Performed by Dionysios Alamanos & Danae Dimitriadi

“In ATMA, man and animal merge in a constantly shape-shifting organism, that tells stories about survival, vulnerability, and the primal urge to dominate. ATMA is a demonstration of the human race’s behavior towards its environment, along with the painful reality of humans exploiting the Earth. The artists recreate the metamorphosis of a beetle, the wisdom of a sacred elephant, ancient totem animals used for shamanism, and a snow leopard (Panthera uncia) coming to life by the Chinese martial art Wing Chun. The leopard first seen chasing its prey for dinner is later shown as the prey of a hunter chasing it for the trophy he can hang on his wall later. Danae Dimitriadi and Dionysios Alamanos are taking us to a dream-like space where the human superiority over animals does not exist.” (…extract from onedanceweek.com)

GUEST COMPANY

LEWIS MAJOR PROJECTS | Australia

EPILOGUE

Choreographed by Lewis Major
Performed by Pascal Marty

Presented by Lewis Major Projects and Dans i Nord, Epilogue is a mixed bill of dance from award-winning international choreographers Lewis Major and Astrid Boons.
Two crystallised dance works explore different processes and aesthetics to create a new language for acclaimed French soloist, Pascal Marty. At the intersection of this collaboration is a hypnotic show where modernity and tradition interact in perfect harmony.
Epilogue by Lewis Major is at once a deconstruction of and a meditation on, classicism and the role that beauty has played in the shaping of the Western canon. In Decay, by Astrid Boons, the dance is represented as a temporal process; initial perfection crumbles and fights against surrender to the limitations of the dancing body.(extract from http://www.lewismajor.com/)

The Van-L Dance Company | UK

MayBE

Choreographed by Vangelis Legakis
Performed by Christina Chan (SG) & Ling Tse (HK)

This piece expresses the passions and feelings we pass through until we feel united. We are usually fighting for a cause, sometimes we fight alone and other times we fight together. What if the cause to fight for is within oneself? What is the fight one needs to take with oneself for being able to transcend? “May BE” represents moments in life when we are insecure, frightened and desperate. It also represents moments in life when we are in love, empowered and united.
