BIOGRAPHY

Hofan is a freelance director, choreographer, teacher and performer. Her training includes physical theatre from the Lecoq School / London International School of Performing Arts (LISPA); contemporary dance with the Silesian Dance Theatre, as well as Chan and Wu style Tai Chi. As the Artistic Director of Burnt Mango Dance Theatre, she has also worked with many projects with other local and international companies. Her most recent projects include: Verbatim theatre piece “The Will to Build” with Theatre du Pif (2015), a site-specific piece, “The Second Tower of Babel: Butoh in the Kowloon Walled City” (2014) with Wangnin Bunmei; being assistant choreographer for Benjamin Britten’s opera “Noyes Fludde” in Shanghai (2013), a dance trio “三千此身” for the HK People’s Fringe, etc. Her current movement practices include tai chi and  contact improvisation.

PROJECT:

Group name: Babel laboratory

Together with Yuk-Tak Wong, Grad Leung and Idy Lam, I will be working on a piece drawn from old stories / poems about Shamshuipo (深水埗), one of the oldest and poorest areas of Hong Kong. We will do some experiments with text, movement and space. (reference: Hong Kong’s battery hens)
