Peishan Chiew | Singapore
Peishan is a choreographer and performer from Singapore. She graduated with a Master of Arts in Contemporary Dance (Distinction) from London Contemporary Dance School, with the support of National Arts Council Arts Scholarship (Overseas). She was an artist with Frontier Danceland (2007 – 2011), and manager/ associate artistic director/ artist with RAW Moves (2013 – 2016).
Peishan’s practice is informed by introspection of her biography. She draws from intuition to identify stimuli that imprint cognitively or emotionally in the creation of responses to her personal narrative. She engages the body as the main subject in the negotiation of the self to wider politics and socio-cultural relations. Using abstraction, her works situate in the in-between of the subjective factual and imaginative representation.
She received commissions to create for Re:Dance Theatre, RAW Moves, T.H.E Second Company, Dance In Situ, as well as LASALLE College of the Arts, Singapore Management University’s InDancity and National University of Singapore’s Dance Synergy. Her works performed in Esplanade da:ns Festival 2013 and M1 Contact Contemporary Dance Festival 2014, 2015 and 2018.
